GST invoices that survive a scrutiny notice

GSTIN for both parties, HSN/SAC per line, place of supply, and an automatic CGST/SGST versus IGST split. Free, no signup, e-invoice-ready export.

Opens the standard builder with the India — GST format and sensible line items already selected. Change anything you like.

Preset template: Ledger

  • The tax split, decided for you

Same state as the place of supply gets CGST plus SGST at half your rate each. Different state gets IGST at the full rate. Union territories get UTGST. You never pick.

  • GSTIN checked, not just accepted

Both GSTINs are validated against the official mod-36 checksum and the state-code list, so a typo is caught before you send rather than after.

  • Rule 46(b) numbering

A sequential number, 16 characters maximum, letters, digits, hyphen and slash only, unique for the financial year. The builder blocks anything that would fail.

  • HSN/SAC summary included

A per-code summary of taxable value and tax is printed at the foot of the invoice, which is what your accountant needs at filing time.

What Rule 46 requires on a tax invoice

Rule 46 of the CGST Rules lists the particulars a tax invoice must carry. In practice that means: the words "Tax Invoice", your name, address and GSTIN, a consecutive serial number of not more than sixteen characters, the date of issue, the recipient’s name, address and GSTIN, the HSN or SAC code, a description of the goods or services, quantity and unit, taxable value, the rate and amount of tax split by component, the place of supply, whether tax is payable on reverse charge, and a signature.

Invoicr prints every one of those. The fields that are legally required for the India GST format are marked as errors rather than warnings, and the compliance panel tells you exactly which one is missing before you download.

CGST and SGST, or IGST?

The test is not where your client is registered. It is the place of supply, as determined by Sections 10 to 13 of the IGST Act. If the place of supply is in your own state, the supply is intra-state and you charge CGST plus SGST, each at half the total GST rate. If it is in another state or a union territory, the supply is inter-state and you charge IGST at the full rate.

That is why the builder asks for the place of supply separately from the client’s address. For most goods it follows the delivery address; for most services it follows the recipient’s location. If the place of supply you choose differs from the state in your client’s GSTIN, Invoicr flags it as something to double-check rather than silently accepting it.

Where the supply is intra-state within a union territory such as Chandigarh or Lakshadweep, UTGST replaces SGST. Invoicr handles that switch from the state code without asking.

Reverse charge, SEZ and composition

Under reverse charge the recipient is liable for the tax, so the supplier does not collect it. Invoicr computes the tax, shows it separately as payable by the recipient, excludes it from the invoice total, and prints the Section 9(3)/9(4) declaration.

A supply to an SEZ unit or developer is zero-rated under Section 16 of the IGST Act. Tick the SEZ box and the tax drops to nil with the correct declaration printed.

A composition taxable person may not collect tax on supplies and must print a declaration saying so. Tick composition and Invoicr suppresses the tax lines and prints the required wording.

e-Invoicing

Businesses above the notified turnover threshold must report B2B invoices to the Invoice Registration Portal and print the IRN and signed QR code. Invoicr exports an IRP-compatible JSON payload from any GST invoice, which you or your GSP can upload to obtain the IRN, and there are fields on the invoice to record the IRN and acknowledgement once you have them.

The exported payload maps line items, HSN codes, per-component tax amounts, discounts, round-off and the value summary into the schema the IRP expects, so nothing has to be retyped.
